Creating Your Own Blog
Blogging is fun and best yet; you can write whatever content you want. Whether writing about current events or family happenings, blogging is a great way to let others know what you are thinking, feeling and doing.
Blogging has become an increasingly popular way to keep in touch with family and friends. When you want to know what someone has been up to you can just log onto their blog and hear all about Patrick’s first words or see pictures from Williams first T-Ball game. Although it is a fun way to communicate, there are some things that you need to be aware of.
It is best to create a blog, if it is going to be personal about your family, that is password accessible. In this day and age, parents need to be sure that they are not creating a way for pedophiles to find their children. For instance, once I Googled the name of a local pool only to find pictures and blogs from a local family with cute little blond children in the top of the Google results for this pool. The blog went on about taking the children to this particular location and even provided the first names, ages, parents names, and pictures of the children.
Now we spend a lot of time teaching teens about internet safety, but parents are perhaps even more vulnerable, having little understanding of the web and things like internet security. It is important that if you are putting personal family information on the web that you make sure that it can only be accessed by those it was intended for.
There is a form of blogging, that is considered public blogging, where it is not necessary for password protection. These can be blog on local happens, informational blog, rants, or a blog that follows you on your latest journey through life. Since this type of blog is meant to be shared with all, there are no security measures needed, just be sure to keep prominent personal information out.
When creating your blog you want to be sure of two things. First, you want to make sure that your information is accurate and makes sense, second you need to be careful not to put you children at risk by including specific family information on a blog that is open to the public. If you follow these to rules you should have a fun and safe time with your blogging adventure!
