They think that lots of traffic equals lots of money, no matter the topic. Sometimes this works, however, you will need millions of visitors a day to have power in numbers make you money. Actually, it is easier to pick a niche that has earning potential.

Most people’s thought process is that the way to earn money with Adsense is to drive hordes of traffic to their websites, regardless of where the traffic comes from. If you have a blog about “apples”, do you think people are going to click on your ads (highly doubtful)?

Think of variations of your keyword that have buyer potential. Instead of “apples”, how about the keyword phrase “buy gourmet apple pies”? “Buy” keywords tend to do well for click through rates as the people are looking to buy something when they type in “buy (keyword)” in Google. These type of people are more likely to click on ads to get more information on purchase a product.
